FACING EXTINCTION
The Australian continent has over 300 native species and some of the species have been facing extinction and fires have accelerated these numbers. The Koala species is facing extinction at an alarming rate Of 95% and many koalas have been effected by these fires.
Most animals can run or move from the fires but koalas live in trees and are not fast animals to flee the fires. Proceeds raised will assist in containment, rebuilding and implementing strategies to preserve these endangered animals. The bushfires on the island has destroyed and threatened many endangered Australian native species .
These include :
- The Koalas
- The Unique Kangaroo Island
- Dunnart (mouse-like marsupial)
- The Glossy Black Cockatoo
- Pygmy Possums
- Southetn Brown Bandicoot
- Bettong
- Potoroos
The bandicoots, Bettongs and Potoroos help to maintain healthy forests by turning over and breaking forest litter which reduces fuel load. It is estimated that half of kangaroos Islands koalas have perished in these fires.
